NYFW - Hood by Air
While we wait for London fashion week to kick of this weekend check out some quick snips of Shyne Oliver's AW15 collection hood by air ripping the runway at New York fashion week!
For AW15, Shayne Oliver, took basic wardrobe staples and entirely flipped them on their head for an avant-garde take on street wear with his ‘Daddy’ collection. The show took place on Wall Street, in cavernous, crumbling concrete bank vaults as the collection’s neutral palette of greys, white, beige and camel merged with the tones of the stark backdrop. Bold flashes of prison-uniform orange added vibrant bursts of colour to the AW15 offering. Models wore stocking masks over their faces with harshly pencilled in brows and accentuated cheekbones, creating a homogeneous tribe with similar distorted figures.
As to be expected from rule-breakers Hood by Air, the clothes were intriguing as the collection played on warping gender confines; male models wore long skirts, split at the side and a deconstructed coats became dresses. Button-downs, puffer jackets, sweaters and T-shirts were transformed and hybridised; a polo shirt became a floor-skimming dress, an overcoat became a loose corset with zips. A key, recurring item was the pleated wide-leg trousers which were buckled in some instances to adapt the silhouette.
The show was soundtracked by DJ Total Freedom’s mix of smooth jazz including the Isley Brothers. Oliver certainly showed why he’s one of the most raved about streetwear designers in fashion right now.
